Making Decorative Candle Screens with Copper Wire Mesh

Making decorative candle screens is a fun project for both kids and grown-ups, and these decorative candle screens make awesome holiday gifts. To make a decorative candle screen, you will need a wire frame. Though you can easily buy copper wire frames from a copper wire mesh suppliers. But if you have the skills, you can also make these frames yourself.

Structuring of Candle Screens

Using the copper wire mesh as a model, create a square pattern similar in size to the bottom of the frame. Now lay it on the wire mesh, mark it throughout the edges and then cut it. Cut three pieces of copper wire mesh similarly but half an inch longer than the frame so that you can fold them on the top to attach the eyelets. Make another piece for the back with similar width as the frame’s sides, but cut it an inch shorter in length to leave space at the end to insert a tea light. If you want, you can also

heat the copper mesh with a heat gun to add different colors to the mesh, like rust, red, blue, and gold, enabling you to bring unique color effects to your candle screen.

Using an eyelet setter, place the eyelets on the sides of the wire mesh pieces where you have marked already. Now attach the screen sides at the top of the frame by folding half an inch of each wire mesh side on top of the frame and then place the eyelets along the edges. Mark over the frame where the eyelets will be placed to join the mesh to the frame’s sides. Eyelets on the sides of the screen will produce a stunning, spiral-like effect. Now attach the wire mesh sides, back, and end to the frame by threading fun wire –using needle-nose pliers through the eyelets and around the sides of the wire frame. Close both top and bottom of each side with the wire twice around the frame.

Decorating Candle Screens

If you want to, you can either decorate the wire screen with pictures that can be framed with an embossed metal frame, or you can create patterns or abstracts such as animals, leaves or flowers from embossed metal sheets or bent wire and glue them to the screen.
